Mark Hamill Visits MediCinema On #Maythefourth!
On Wednesday 4th May 2016, the Force was strong inside the ICAP MediCinema at our Guy’s Hospital in London, where Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, surprised patients at the special #May the 4th (also known to fans as Star Wars Day) screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens within our MediCinema.
The highest grossing film of all time in the UK was shown to patients and their families within the ICAP MediCinema at Guy’s in collaboration with Force for Change charitable initiatives taking place across the world on Star Wars Day.
Mark Hamill visited patients before the special screening, along with droids R2-D2, C-3P0 and BB-8, creating an out of this world experience for patients visiting the MediCinema. Before the screening, MediCinema patients got to take part in a special Jedi training session with lightsabers, before settling down ready for the seventh instalment of the Star Wars saga. Star Wars toy licensees Pyramid, Zak, Copywriter Designs, Hallmark, Worlds-Apart and Hasbro donated products for the goody bags, which were given to everyone who attended the screening.
It was such an honour and special treat for our patients to have Mark, C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 visiting the MediCinema today before the screening - literally an out of this world experience! We cannot thank Mark, LucasFilm and Disney enough for giving our patients such a fun and memorable experience at what is such a difficult time.
Kat Mason, our CEO of MediCinema
The visit and screening were part of Star Wars: Force for Change, a charitable initiative from Disney and Lucasfilm, harnessing the strength of Star Wars and its global fandom to empower people to make a positive impact on the world around them.
The special screening and visit from Mark definitely created a positive impact within our MediCinema! So much so that The Daily Mail did an article on the visit – check out the coverage here!
